Charts: Beatles '1' stays put; Dido's 'No Angel' surges
For the fifth week in a row--and sixth week overall--the Beatles’ “1” (Capitol) has garnered the top spot on the album chart, according to industry sources. The nine remaining slots in the Top 10 all saw movement this week, however, including the first Top 10 appearance from Dido ’s June 1999 release “No Angel” (Arista).
Landing just behind “1” is Shaggy ’s “Hotshot” (MCA), which climbs one spot No. 2 this week. "Hotshot" is the follow-up to 1995's platinum-selling "Boombastic," which features a hit single of the same name. Two singles from “Hotshot” appear on the latest Billboard Hot 100 singles chart: “It Wasn’t Me” (No. 2) and “Angel” (No. 56).
“Hotshot” trades places with the “Now That’s What I Call Music Vol. 5” compilation, which is down a notch to No. 3 this week.
Also swapping spots this week are Snoop Dogg’s “Tha Last Meal” (Priority) and Limp Bizkit’s “Chocolate Starfish and the Hotdog Flavored Water” (Flip/Interscope); “Tha Last Meal” is up one spot to No. 4, while “Chocolate Starfish” drops one notch to No. 5.
Creed’s “Human Clay” (Wind Up) and Outkast’s “Stankonia” (La Face/Arista) also switch places, with the former up a notch to No. 6 and the latter dipping to No. 7.
Sade’s “Lover’s Rock” (Epic), which returned to the Top 10 last week at No. 10, continues its ascent this week with a two-spot move to No. 8.
The greatest gainer in the Top 10 this week is “No Angel,” which leapt from No. 27 two weeks ago to No. 17 last week, and bursts into the Top 10 this week at No. 9. The British singer’s debut features the song “Thank You,” a sample of which is prominently featured in Eminem’s hit single “Stan.” Dido also appears in Eminem's video for the song.
“Thank You” debuted on the most recent Billboard Hot 100 Airplay chart at No. 76, and on the Hot 100 singles chart at No. 8. “No Angel” also features the track “Here with Me,” which is the theme song for the WB television series “Roswell."
Rounding out the Top 10 this week is Lenny Kravitz’s “Greatest Hits” (Virgin) compilation, which features the new song “Again.” The album debuted at No. 2 in late-November, then left the Top 10 shortly thereafter.
Kravitz’s return to the Top 10 and Dido’s inaugural appearance there bounce the latest from both Nelly and Backstreet Boys from their former Top 10 perches. Nelly’s “Country Grammar” (Universal), which returned to the Top 10 at No. 8 last week, is edged out at No. 11 this week. Backstreet Boys’ “Black & Blue” (Jive), meanwhile--which debuted at No. 1 seven weeks ago and was at No. 2 two weeks back--has dropped to No. 15 this week after dipping to No. 9 last week.
