Charts: Beatles' '1' remains just that for fourth straight week
For the fourth consecutive week--and fifth week overall since its release seven weeks ago--“1,” a collection of 27 of the Beatles’ No. 1 U.S. and U.K. hits, managed to outsell every recording on the chart. The disc has shipped over 6 million copies, garnering it sextuple-platinum certification by the Recording Industry Association of America, and has actually sold over 5 million copies since its Nov. 14 release, according to Capitol.
After spending five weeks at No. 3, “Now That’s What I Call Music Vol. 5” (Columbia) moves into the No. 2 spot this week. The compilation album features previously released hits by artists including 'NSync, Destiny's Child, Britney Spears, Backstreet Boys, Everclear and Bon Jovi.
Jumping two spots this week is Shaggy’s “Hotshot” (MCA), which climbs to No. 3, and Limp Bizkit’s “Chocolate Starfish and the Hotdog Flavored Water” (Flip/Interscope), up to No. 4.
The Top 10’s greatest gainers are the latest albums from both Snoop Dogg and Outkast. Snoop’s “Tha Last Meal” (Priority), which debuted at No. 9 last week, leaps to No. 5 this week. Outkast’s “Stankonia” (La Face/Arista), meanwhile, surges from No. 13 to No. 6.
Creed’s “Human Clay” (Wind Up), now in its 66th week on the chart, dips from No. 4 to No. 7. Nelly’s “Country Grammar” (Universal), meanwhile, leaps to No. 8 from No. 15.
The combination of upward-moving, urban-themed albums and a dip in sales for “Black & Blue” (Jive) sees the latest from Backstreet Boys take a dive from No. 2 last week to No. 9 this week, its sixth week on the chart.
Rounding out the Top 10 is Sade’s “Lovers Rock” (Epic) at No. 10, up one spot from last week. The album, which debuted at No. 3 in November, is the singer’s first new release in nearly eight years.
