Charts: Beatles '1' rings up 1.25 million new sales

U.S. record-buyers snapped up more than 1.25 million copies of the Beatles' "1" (Capitol) compilation in the days leading up to Christmas, easily making it the best-selling album of the week, according to industry reports.

Better than 4.5 million copies of "1" have sold in the U.S. during its first six weeks of release. The album--which also tops the U.K. charts this week--so far has spent four weeks at No. 1.

Only one new release cracked the week's top 10: Snoop Dogg 's "Tha Last Meal" (No Limit), which sold almost 300,000 copies to land at No. 9, according to industry sources.

With sales of just under 725,000 units, Backstreet Boys' "Black & Blue" (Jive) is the week's No. 2 album. Spending its fifth straight week at No. 3 is "Now That's What I Call Music Vol. 5" (Columbia), a compilation of hits by artists including 'NSync, Destiny's Child, Britney Spears , Backstreet Boys, Everclear and Bon Jovi.

Holding firm at No. 4 is Creed's "Human Clay" (Wind Up), while Shaggy 's "Hot Shot" (MCA) jumps two notches from a week ago to chart at No. 5. "Chocolate Starfish and the Hot Dog Flavored Water" (Interscope), the latest Limp Bizkit album, charts at No. 6, also up two notches.

Rounding out the week's top 10 are Tim McGraw's "Greatest Hits" (Curb), which falls to No. 7, Britney Spears' "Oops ... I Did it Again" (Jive) which dips to No. 8, and 'NSync's "No Strings Attached" (Jive).
