Richard Ashcroft cancels shows due to broken ribs

LONDON--Ex-Verve singer Richard Ashcroft cancelled the last two dates of his U.K. tour after breaking two ribs in a fall from the stage during a Tuesday night (12/12) show in Birmingham, England.

Planned performances at London’s Brixton Academy on Thursday (12/14) and Friday (12/15) will be rescheduled for February, according to his record label, although exact dates have not been announced. Tickets for the sold-out shows will be honored on the rescheduled dates, but ticket-holders can also obtain refunds at the point of purchase.

Ashcroft’s label Virgin Records said in a statement: “Ashcroft fell from the stage, breaking two ribs and injuring his back in the process. Despite considerable pain, Richard returned to complete an encore. Doctors have advised him to rest until the New Year.”

His label also stated that his injuries will not affect his rescheduled U.S. tour, which kicks off on Jan. 19.
