Tour Diary: Finger Eleven, on tour with Creed and Sevendust
Finger Eleven is not a household name, but the up-and-coming Canadian rock quintet earned the right to play before packed arenas when it was selected as an opening act for portions of Creed’s North American tour. Members of Finger Eleven have agreed to provide liveDaily with a report from the road each weekday through the conclusion of the Creed tour, which also features Sevendust.
Finger Eleven’s sophomore album, "The Greyest of Blue Skies," was released by Wind-Up Records (also home to Creed) in July. The group has since been taking its music to the road, mixing club and festival dates with its arena gigs.
Today’s entry comes from Scott Anderson, the band’s frontman. After a Sunday club performance with Sevendust in Pittsburgh, the band is en route to Providence, R.I.
- monday the fourth.
the name of the band i'm in is "finger eleven". i'm looking for it right now on my plane ticket. it's only got my real name. scott anderson. nothing else. i think that was part of my rock and roll fantasy. to see our name on a plane ticket. i don't know why, really. i get excited when i see our name on real world stuff. real is always a relative thing when you're on tour. maybe it's better off that there's no band name on there. in an airport, nobody's heard of you. so all they have to go on is the name of your band. nobody's going to listen to you talk about your metaphor for life choices and personal paths. not in real life, and never in an airport.
so now we have to move as fast as the tour we're on, which is with creed. that means we travel by plane for the next couple of days. creed just happen to be, according to the vh1 special on tv last night, the biggest rock band in america right now. i should really have known that. that's the impression the concerts leave you with. it's easy to forget that when you're on the other side. last night we looked at each other and discovered that we were, in fact, opening for the biggest band in america. something to think about. we smiled a lot. not to mention the middle act on the bill. sevendust puts any live act to shame.
creed fans are a loyal bunch. they know what they want. they've also been warm to us for the last few weeks. there are a few factors involved with how an audience reacts. what day of the week it is, how early the show is, and whether or not your band sucks. we've been pretty lucky so far. the band always likes to see a late show time, a drunk audience, and a long weekend. when that happens, it's not so much work. we'll take care of the bit about not sucking.
off to providence. one show with sevendust, then back with creed.
