Madonna sparkles at London's Brixton Academy

LONDON--Madonna proved that she is still one of the most glamorous performers around as she played a 20-minute set at London’s Brixton Academy on Tuesday night (11/28) to crowd of 3,000 fans and celebrities.

The queen of pop had the south London venue decked out in a glitzy cowboy theme with bales of hay on stage and Union Jack flags hanging on the bars. A long red carpet ran up a staircase in the Academy’s foyer, a huge jeweled "M" hung center stage and gold foil hung off the stage.

Wearing tight blue jeans and a tight, black sleeveless T-shirt with her son’s name "Rocco" in glitter on the front and her daughter’s nickname "Lola" in glitter on the back, she burst on stage at 10 p.m. to perform "Impressive Instant" as she was backed by shirtless male dancers.

As her crew danced around an old, white Ford pick-up truck placed on stage, she greeted her audience: "Hello, London! Thanks for coming to my party! Are you having a good time? Well, we'll see about that..." She then launched into "Runaway Lover," "Don’t Tell Me" and "What It Feels Like to Be a Girl," which was dedicated "to all you pop bitches out there, including myself." She also played classic hit "Holiday," to which the audience let up a loud roar, before she finished with hit single "Music."

Other acts on the bill included Sharleen Spiteri from Texas and former Verve frontman Richard Ashcroft. Their sets, however, garnered only a sliver of the crowd that Madonna’s did.
