Briefly: Puffy, Simon, Radiohead, Roskilde, FTC
Sean "Puffy" Combs has funded Hosea's Feed the Hungry and Homeless' (HFTH) Thanksgiving dinner for more than 30,000 people at Turner Field in Atlanta. HFTH was founded by the late Rev. Hosea L. Williams.
Paul Simon has been named MusiCares Person of the Year. The MusiCares organization provides financial and medical assistance to members of the music industry. Simon will be honored at a dinner in Los Angeles on Feb. 19, at which dinner the organization will hold a charity auction.
A new Radiohead studio album is due in March, Billboard reported.
Organizers of Denmark's Roskilde Festival--at which, last June, nine people were crushed during a Pearl Jam set--have released a report on how they are going to heighten safety at next year's festival, according to Wall of Sound. The report's title, believe it or not, is "Roskilde Festival--30 Years of Happiness and an Accident."
From the Federal Trade Commission:
Today, the Federal Trade Commission responded to inquiries from members of Congress regarding whether Section 5 of the Federal Trade Commission Act prohibiting "deceptive" or "unfair" marketing would apply to the practices of the entertainment industry outlined in its September 11, 2000 report, "Marketing Violent Entertainment to Children: A Review of Self-Regulation and Industry Practices in the Motion Picture, Music Recording & Electronic Game Industries." The Commission finds significant legal limitations, including First Amendment concerns, to carrying out an effective law enforcement effort in this area. Given these issues, the Commission supports stepped-up self-regulation by the industry coupled with Congressional oversight of those efforts as the best approach to protecting children from exposure to violent entertainment products.
