Madonna, Eminem big winners at MTV Europe Awards

LONDON--American artists scooped most of the laurels at the 2000 MTV Europe Awards held in Stockholm, Sweden, on Thursday (11/16) night as Madonna and Eminem both brought home two gongs each. Top acts including Backstreet Boys, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Ricky Martin were also lauded.

Madonna claimed the Best Female and Best Dance awards, while Eminem received Best Album and Best Hip Hop. Backstreet Boys were named Best Group, while Red Hot Chili Peppers grabbed Best Rock and Ricky Martin was named Best Male.

Other Americans who won were blink-182 for Best New Act, Moby for Best Video ("Natural Blues") and Jennifer Lopez for Best R&B.

The only European acts to receive awards this year were British acts Robbie Williams , All Saints and Westlife. The Best Pop gong went to All Saints while Best Song went to Robbie Williams for "Rock DJ" and the Best U.K. & Ireland award went to Westlife.

Live performances at the MTV Europe Awards included numbers from Madonna, All Saints and Robbie Williams & Kylie Minogue.
