Faith Hill nominated for four American Music Awards

Faith Hill, a country singer who has been embraced by the pop mainstream, picked up four American Music Awards nominations on Monday (11/13) to lead this year's field of nominees. Latin crossover star Marc Anthony and rockers Creed garnered three nominations apiece.

Hill was nominated as Favorite Female Artist in the AMA's country and pop/rock categories, and also is in the running for Favorite Adult Contemporary Artist and Favorite Country Album honors. Hill's latest album, "Breathe," is certified for sales of more than 4 million by the Recording Industry Association of America.

Anthony, meanwhile, will battle Hill for the title of AMA’s Favorite Adult Contemporary Artist. He is also in the running for Favorite Male Pop/Rock Artist and Favorite Latin Artist. Creed is nominated in the Favorite Pop/Rock Album, Favorite Pop/Rock Band, and Favorite Alternative Music Artist categories.

Britney Spears, who will host this year’s AMA ceremony, was among eight acts to pick up two nominations. Others included Toni Braxton , Sisqo , Destiny’s Child, Celine Dion , Eminem , 'NSync and Alan Jackson.

The 28th Annual American Music Awards ceremony will take place at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles on Jan. 8, and will be broadcast by ABC.

AMA nominees are based on airplay information supplied by Radio & Records magazine and from sales data compiled by SoundScan. Winners are selected by a national sampling of about 20,000 people--taking into account age, sex, geographical location and ethnic origin. Results are kept secret until the awards are presented.
