U.K. Charts: Westlife keeps Spice Girls out of top spot
LONDON--The boys beat the girls on Sunday (11/12), as Westlife 's second LP, "Coast to Coast," reached No. 1 (over 600,000 copies sold) on the Official U.K. Album chart in its debut week, while Spice Girls had to settle for No. 2 (less than 100,000 copies sold) in the debut week of their third album, "Forever."
U2s "All That You Cant Leave Behind" fell from No. 1 to No. 4, and Texas "Greatest Hits" compilation dropped from No. 2 to No. 3.
The only other new entry in the Top 10 this week was Fatboy Slims "Halfway Between the Gutter and the Stars" which debuted at No. 8. Elsewhere on the chart, Ricky Martin s new album, "Sound Loaded," entered at No. 16, and R&B star R Kellys "TP-2.Com" entered at No. 21.
Boy band A1's "Same Old Brand New You" debuted at No. 1 on the Official U.K. Singles Chart. As a result, Westlifes "My Love" fell from No. 1 to No. 2 and Baha Mens "Who Let The Dogs Out" fell from No. 2 to No. 3.
The second highest new entry this week was awarded to Backstreet Boys, as "Shape of My Heart" debuted at No. 4. Meanwhile, the Offsprings "Original Prankster" debuted at No. 6.
"Disposable Teens," the first single off of Marilyn Mansons album "Holy Wood," entered the chart at a surprisingly low No. 12, which may prove that his popularity in the U.K. is waning.
Other notable new entries included Sade at No. 17, Mansun at No. 23 and Tom Jones and Heather Small at No. 24.
