Rage Against the Machine to release new album in December
Rage Against the Machine will release an album of cover songs in December, according to Epic Records. News of the album comes in the wake of last week's announcement by vocalist Zack de la Rocha’s that he had left the band.
The 12-track disc, titled “Renegades,” is set for release on Dec. 5, and features the group performing some of its “all-time favorite songs,” according to Epic. Such songs include tracks originally recorded by the Rolling Stones (“Street Fighting Man”), Cypress Hill (“How I Could Just Kill a Man”), and Bob Dylan (“Maggie’s Farm”). The disc will also include the group’s previously recorded version of Bruce Springsteen’s “The Ghost of Tom Joad.”
Last month, the band recorded two shows at Los Angeles’ Olympic Auditorium on Sept. 12 and 13 for use on a live album. An Epic spokesperson had said at that time that several studio-recorded cover songs would be included on the live release. No information on the status of the live album was available at press time, though the label spokesperson indicated that information is expected next week.
Rage vocalist de la Rocha announced on Oct. 18 that he had left the group “because our decision-making process has completely failed.” The remaining band members issued a statement on Oct. 19 in which they indicated--albeit vaguely--their plans to continue on without de la Rocha.
