Unified Theory lines up November headlining dates
Unified Theory is set to kick off a headlining club tour of North America next month, according to the group’s publicist. The jaunt will get underway in New Mexico on Nov. 1, and will follow the band’s current opening stint for VAST.
After the opening date, the tour will touch down in Texas, and will then move east for a string of shows throughout the South. Mid-month finds the group in the Northeast, beginning with a Nov. 18 date in Washington, D.C., and subsequent stops in Philadelphia; New York City; Providence, R.I.; Boston; Asbury Park, N.J.; and Albany, N.Y. The current batch of dates ends on Nov. 28 in Toronto, Ontario, though additional dates that will extend well into 2001 are expected, according to the group’s publicist.
The band--comprising lead singer and guitarist Chris Shin, former Blind Melon members Christopher Thorn (guitar) and Brad Smith (bass), and former Pearl Jam member Dave Krusen (drums)--is touring in support of its self-titled debut album. The group spent much of September opening for Live and Counting Crows, and will finish its opening run with VAST on Oct. 26 in Los Angeles.
“Unified Theory” features the single “California,” for which the band shot its first video. The video, as well as acoustic versions of “California” and the track “Wither,” can be found at the group’s official website.
Thorn and Smith parted ways for several years when Blind Melon disbanded in 1995 after lead singer Shannon Hoon died of a drug overdose. Krusen, meanwhile, left Pearl Jam shortly after completing work on that band's first and most successful album, 1991’s "Ten." The trio formed Unified Theory with Shin in 1998.
