Allman Brothers To Begin 30th Anniversary Tour In Denver
The Allman Brothers Band will launch their annual summer tour, marking their 30th year together, on June 12th with the first of two nights at the Denver-area Red Rocks Amphitheatre. A 40-date tour itinerary released this week by the band's record label, 550 Records, places the band primarily in outdoor amphitheatres for the duration of the run, which closes September 5th in Raleigh, NC.
Derek Trucks, nephew of founding drummer Butch Trucks, will take the guitar slot recently vacated by longtime Gregg Allman sideman Jack Pearson, who in turn took over when Warren Haynes left the group in 1997 after an eight-year stay. Trucks played with the band briefly in 1998.
The tour will be sponsored in part by NASCAR, who will provide a racing display at all stops on the tour and assist in coordinating a second stage to showcase emerging artists. Susan Tedeschi will open a string of West Coast dates, according to the band's official web site.
The band most recently released Mycology, a compilation of their 90's recordings with Epic Records.
