Michael Jackson to be laid to rest on his 51st birthday
Nearly two months after his death, pop icon Michael Jackson will be buried at a Glendale, CA, cemetery later this month.
The Jackson family confirmed this morning (8/18) that the King of Pop will be laid to rest in the Holly Terrace section in the Great Mausoleum at Glendale Forest Lawn Memorial Park in a private ceremony Aug. 29, on what would be Jackson's 51st birthday.
Jackson died June 25 in a Los Angeles hospital after suffering cardiac arrest. He was 50.
"The Jackson family once again wishes to express its gratitude to Michael's fans around the world for their support during these difficult times," the press release stated.
Though the private ceremony is limited to family and close friends, media outlets will have access to nearby accommodations.
A private memorial service was held last month at Forest Lawn Hollywood Hills, followed by a public service July 7 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. Approximately 11,000 fans filled the center to pay tribute to the pop icon, along with celebrities including Stevie Wonder, Usher, Lionel Richie, Brooke Shields and Magic Johnson.
"This Is It," a full-length movie including footage from Jackson's June rehearsals in preparation for his sold-out series of 50 London concerts that was due to begin last month, is set to hit theaters Oct. 30.
