ZZ Top plans to continue trek without Aerosmith

In the wake of Aerosmith 's scrapped tour due to frontman Steven Tyler's fall from a concert stage, tourmates ZZ Top have mapped dates of their own this fall in many of the canceled tour's markets.

The outing, which incorporates previously scheduled ZZ Top-only dates, including an appearance Tuesday night (8/18) in Redding, CA, is still in the formative stages, and the band is expected to announce firm dates later this week, according to a press release. Updates will be announced at the band's official website.

As previously reported, Tyler suffered a broken shoulder and a cut to his head that required stitches after plunging from the stage during an Aug. 5 concert in Sturgis, SD.

"We, like so many fans, are disappointed that we're not going to be out with Aerosmith and we wish Steven a speedy recovery," said ZZ Top's Dusty Hill in a press statement.

"As musicians, we sometimes have to improvise and that's exactly what this tour is about," added Billy Gibbons. "We're going to get out there as quickly as possible and play for people who want to come to a 'down 'n' dirty' rock and roll show--no frills and no holds barred."

Off the road, the band continues to work in the studio with producer Rick Rubin on a follow-up to 2003's "Mescalero," according to a press statement. The band inked a deal last year with Rubin's American Records label.
