Elton John to perform during Wembley Stadium’s final hours

Elton John will be the opening act at the AXA Final Ball, which will take place at London's Wembley Stadium on Nov. 2, just hours before the wrecking balls are scheduled to take down the historic structure.

John is expected to kick off the show--which will benefit the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children--with a 30-minute set, according to John’s official website. Many other celebrities and sports personalities are expected at the event, but no specific line-up has been announced.

A huge canopy will cover the stadium’s field for the gala. Tickets for the event are selling for 1,000 pounds apiece (nearly $1,500).

A new 90,000-seat Wembley Stadium is scheduled to open on the site of the old facility in 2003.
