Album Chart: Maxwell takes over top slot
Maxwell 's fans apparently have missed the singer, as evidenced by first-week sales of "BLACKsummers'night," the R&B singer's first new album in eight years.
With a first-week tally of 316,000 copies, "BLACKsummers'night" claims the No. 1 spot on the forthcoming Billboard 200 chart; the total marks a career-high single-week sales figure for Maxwell, whose previous album--2001's "Now," also made its debut at the top of the chart, according to Nielsen SoundScan retail data as reported by Billboard.
Meanwhile, another in a series of high-charting "Hannah Montana" albums--this one being the "Hannah Montana 3" TV soundtrack--makes its debut at No. 2 with sales of 137,000 copies; the "Now 31" hits compilation drops two spots to No. 3 with 101,000 copies; All Time Low's "Nothing Personal" debuts at No. 4 with 63,000 copies; and the Black Eyed Peas' "The E.N.D." stays put at No. 5 with just shy of All Time Low's total.
Rounding out the Top 10 are Brad Paisley's "American Saturday Night," which dips to No. 6 on sales of 44,000; Rob Thomas' "Cradlesong," down to No. 7 with 41,000 copies; Taylor Swift's "Fearless" at No. 8 with 36,000 copies; Eminem's "Relapse at No. 9 with 34,000 copies; and Jonas Brothers' "Lines, Vines and Trying Times" at No. 10 with slightly less than Eminem's total.
In related news, Michael Jackson's catalog continues to sell at a brisk pace in the wake of the pop singer's recent death. During the most recent sales week, Jackson's solo albums sold a combined total of 1.1 million copies; in the two-and-a-half weeks since his death, fans snapped up a total of more than 2.3 million copies of Jackson albums.
