Eddie Vedder, Ani DiFranco [ tickets ] and Ben Harper [ tickets ] will perform at New York City’s Madison Square Garden on Oct. 13 at a rally for Green Party Presidential Candidate Ralph Nader, according to a statement issued by Pearl Jam [ tickets ]’s publicist and an announcement on Nader’s official campaign website.

The rally will also feature actors Bill Murray, Susan Sarandon and Tim Robbins, documentary filmmaker and satirist Michael Moore, and former talk-show host Phil Donahue.

Tickets to the Oct. 13 event featuring Vedder, DiFranco and Harper go on sale Friday (10/6), and are being offered in exchange for a $20 minimum donation to Nader’s campaign fund. Information on purchasing tickets can be found on Nader’s official website, VoteNader.com.

In a statement announcing his participation in the upcoming rally, Vedder said, “It mystifies me that this country will send troops to other countries in the name of preserving or achieving democracy, and yet we can't seem to find a way to give candidates like Ralph Nader a voice in our own presidential debates. In fact, he isn't even allowed to attend the debates.”

The latter portion of Vedder's remarks refer to an incident at Tuesday night’s (10/3) presidential debate in Boston during which Nader, despite possessing a ticket to attend the debate as an audience member, was denied access to the building by a Commission on Presidential Debates official and uniformed police officers.

On Sept. 23, Vedder took the stage at a Nader rally in Seattle, where he gave a two-song solo performance that included "Soon Forget” from Pearl Jam's latest album "Binaural." Vedder is also scheduled to perform at Nader's Oct. 10 rally in Chicago.

Pearl Jam is currently touring in support of “Binaural.” Vedder’s appearance at the Nader rally in New York City will take place between that tour’s Oct. 12 date in Missouri and Oct. 14-15 two-night stand at the Cynthia Woods Pavilion in Texas.

DiFranco is in the midst of her tour in support of “Swing Set.” Harper and his band the Innocent Criminals, meanwhile, are touring in support of their fourth album “Burn to Shine.”
