Dave Matthews Band gears up for 'Big Whiskey'
With an extensive spring and summer run already underway, the Dave Matthews Band is giving fans a free online preview of its impending new album, "Big Whiskey and The GrooGrux King."
The group, which kicked off the slate of dates Wednesday night (5/27) in Darien Center, NY, has "Big Whiskey and The GrooGrux King" currently streaming in its entirety via Pandora. The record, which hits shelves Tuesday (6/2), marks the first studio album for the group in four years and the first since the death last summer of saxophonist LeRoi Moore.
DMB continues the roadwork tonight (5/29) with a two-night stand at Boston's Fenway Park alongside Willie Nelson & Family. The in-progress run crosses the pond for a late-June/early July European leg, returning to the US in time for 34 performances at theaters, amphitheaters and festivals through early October. The band, which has been tapped for the season premiere of PBS's "Austin City Limits" Oct. 3, will also headline at the program's namesake festival on the same night. The full schedule is shown below.
In celebration of the album's June 2 release date, DMB will play a benefit concert June 1 at New York City's Beacon Theatre. Proceeds will benefit the group's Bama Works Fund, which provides grants to an array of humanitarian, environmental, educational and artistic programs, according to a press release. The performance will air live and commercial-free on music network Fuse beginning at 9 p.m. EST, as well as on Hulu.com; it will mark Hulu's first-ever live music concert.
The band will also host its own music channel on Sirius XM June 1-8. The weeklong, 24-hour broadcast will showcase material from the band's entire catalog, which spans nearly two decades.
