Kings of Leon extend 'Night' tour into summer
Newly crowned arena conquerors Kings of Leon , who are currently in the midst of a spring tour, will return to North America for more shows this summer.
The southern rockers, who continue their current road stretch tonight in Pittsburgh, PA, have booked several more large arenas for the summer outing, which kicks off Aug. 9 at Morrison, CO's Red Rocks Amphitheatre and includes three dates in Canada, along with appearances in Los Angeles (8/22) and East Rutherford, NJ (9/12). The full schedule is below.
Released in September, "Only By the Night" debuted at No. 4 on The Billboard 200 chart and quickly become top-seller at the iTunes store. The band recorded the set, its fourth studio album, in its hometown of Nashville with Angelo Petraglia and Jacquire King (Tom Waits, Modest Mouse) behind the boards.
The album's first single, "Sex on Fire," held down the No. 1 position on Billboard's Modern Rock Hot Tracks chart for more than two months last year. A second single, "Use Somebody," hit airwaves in December, and a third track from the album, "Revelry," was issued in March. Videos for all three songs are streaming at the group's website.
The band received three Grammy nominations this year for "Only By the Night." Along with a nod for Best Album, "Sex on Fire" scored a pair of nominations for Best Rock Song and Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals. In February, "Sex on Fire" took home the statue for Best Rock Performance at the 51st Grammy Awards ceremony.
The band is reportedly already at work on a follow-up album. In a recent interview with NME, the band's lead singer and guitarist, Caleb Followill, said some of the new tracks have an experimental feel. "Structurally, they're really different from anything out there--a lot of them don't even have a chorus," he said.
