Madonna to adopt again

Madonna reportedly is in Malawi to adopt another child, a girl named Mercy. The girl is from the same orphanage that Madonna's son, David Banda, was adopted from in October 2006, according to The Christian Science Monitor.

Madonna's latest adoption has drawn the same criticism that was leveled against her at the time she adopted David Banda. A Save the Children UK spokesperson was quoted in the Monitor as saying, "The best place for a child is in his or her family in their home community. Most children in orphanages have one parent still living or have an extended family that can care for them in the absence of their parents." The spokesperson also said he believes that "international adoption should only be considered if the child is a genuine orphan and if all other alternatives in their own country have been genuinely exhausted.

"We urge any celebrity to set an example, to follow internationally agreed procedures designed to protect the child and to ensure that the child in question has no other options in their home community."

Despite the criticism, there is no official report that claims Madonna is not following procedures.

Madonna did not comment on the adoption but reportedly said it was "amazing" to be back in Malawi, where she runs a charity organization.
