Trey Anastasio, Don Hart to release orchestral album

Trey Anastasio has partnered with composer Don Hart for an orchestral effort entitled "Time Turns Elastic," which is scheduled to hit shelves May 12.

The Rubber Jungle Records release is made up of pieces orchestrated by Hart and featuring Anastasio's vocals and guitar work alongside The Northwest Sinfonia under the conduction of David Sabee.

The Phish mastermind first collaborated with the composer at 2004's Bonnaroo Festival while preparing a piece from his solo album, "Seis de Mayo."

"Neither of us had ever heard anything that uses a guitar as a serious instrument intermingled with an orchestra in the same way one would write a concerto for a violin and orchestra," Anastasio stated in a press release.

Anastasio debuted the finished product with the Orchestra Nashville during the season opener held at the legendary Ryman Auditorium last September. The work's East Coast premiere is scheduled for May 21 and is already sold out. The guitarist will perform alongside the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Marin Alsop, the first woman to head a major American orchestra.

"Time Turns Elastic" will also grace the setlist of Phish's upcoming reunion tour, where the jam band will translate the piece into an "epic rock song," according to a press release.

Phish begins its reunion run with a two-night stand June 4-5 in Wantagh, NY, and finishes up more than two months later in Saratoga Springs, NY, Aug. 16.
