Neil Young puts new wheels on 'Road' this spring
Neil Young will become reacquainted with his native country when he sets out across Canada next month to begin supporting his latest studio effort.
The Rock and Roll Hall of Famer launches the outing April 6 in St. John's, Newfoundland, and the first 10 dates of the trek will take place north of the US-Canada border before Young returns to his adopted homeland for an April 27 show in Denver. In May, Young will make an appearance at New Orleans' Jazz & Heritage Festival. Details are included below.
Young's latest studio set, "Fork in the Road," is set for release April 7. The album was inspired by Young's dedication toward building a commercially viable electric power system for automobiles, according to published reports.
The performer retooled his 1959 Lincoln Continental as part of the Lincvolt Project, a joint effort with biodiesel pioneer Johnathan Goodwin. Young's prototype Lincvolt vehicle and the Lincvolt Project itself are reflected in songs such as "Fuel Line," "Cough Up the Bucks," "Off The Road" and "Get Behind The Wheel."
A documentary produced by longtime Young collaborator Larry Johnson follows the singer on his first long-distance trip in the car to Washington, DC. The DVD can be purchased through Young's website.
The first release in Young's archive series, "The Archives Vol. 1 1963-1972," was originally scheduled for release in February. The impending release of "Fork in the Road" will push "Archives" further back into 2009, with no firm release date currently set. When it surfaces, the box set will reportedly feature both DVD and Blu-Ray editions, each containing 128 audio tracks--including more than 50 unreleased songs--as well as thousands of photos and hours of videos, along with a 236-page hardcover book.
