Chris Brown pulls out of Kids' Choice Awards

Chris Brown, who was arrested last month for allegedly beating up his girlfriend, fellow R&B singer Rihanna, has taken himself out of the running for two Kids' Choice Awards for which he had been nominated: Favorite Male Singer and Favorite Song.

"Unfortunately, the controversy surrounding the incident last month has shifted the focus from the music to whether he should be allowed to be among those nominated," a spokesperson for Brown said in a statement. "While Chris would like to speak to his fans directly about this and other issues, pending legal proceedings preclude his doing so at this time."

In related news, Brown's manager, Tina Davis, issued a press release denying she had sent an intimate text message to the singer the evening of the altercation between the singer and Rihanna.

"The relationship between Ms. Davis and Mr. Brown is that of manager and client," her attorney said in a statement. "There has never been any other relationship. ... There are no emails between Ms. Davis and Mr. Brown of the type which have been described in media reports."

Numerous reports claim the alleged fight between the two performers broke out after Rihanna discovered a romantic text to Brown from another woman.

Davis's attorney said Davis will take legal action if the source of the rumors is identified.
