New Releases, Sept. 19: Madonna, Willie, Streisand, Björk and more
“Music” (Warner Bros), the latest from Madonna , tops the list of new releases this week. The album is the follow-up to the songstress’ multi-platinum 1998 release “Ray of Light.”
The new album’s title track is currently at No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot 100 singles chart in the U.S. That marks the 33rd time Madonna has scored a Top 10 hit, placing her behind only Elvis and the Beatles, according to Warner Bros.
The song "Music" made a stir this summer when a copy was allegedly leaked over the Internet without the singer’s permission. Now, the entire album is available for purchase--and "file-sharing."
Willie Nelson ventures into blues territory with his latest album “Milk Cow Blues” (Island). The disc features blues versions of previously recorded Nelson staples, as well as covers of several blues classics. Nelson performs with a number of artists, including blues legend B.B. King, junior virtuosos Jonny Lang and Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Dr. John, Francine Reed, Keb’ Mo’ and others.
Barbra Streisand fans: “Timeless: Live in Concert” could be the legendary siren’s last live album. At any rate, this 2-CD collection--which features 39 tracks recorded at her 1999 New Year’s Eve performance at Las Vegas’ MGM Grand--is being released to commemorate her upcoming performances, which are being billed as her last.
Streisand is scheduled to perform her final four concerts beginning this week with two nights in Los Angeles, followed by two in New York City next week.
Björk releases a new EP entitled “Selmasongs" (Elektra), the follow-up to her 1997 full-length disc “Homogenic.” The new 7-song disc features music from the motion picture “Dancer in the Dark,” which stars the Icelandic icon. The film took the top honor at this year’s Cannes Film Festival, and Björk herself pulled down the Best Actress award for her performance.
"Something Like Human” (550 Music/Epic), the latest from Fuel, hits shelves just days after the Sept. 16 start of the band’s current tour. "Hemorrhage," the album's first single, is currently No. 5 on Billboard's Modern Rock Chart.
