Briefly: STP, Slipknot, Petty, Halford, Radiohead, EMI-Time Warner
The "listeners of KROQ," a Los Angeles radio station, will be credited as the directors of a new Stone Temple Pilots video. Four hundred winners of a KROQ contest will shoot their own video footage of a Sept. 24 STP concert at L.A.'s El Rey Theater, and all of the tapes will then be edited into a presumably coherent whole at a later date.
According to Pollstar, "Slipknot has canceled its fall headlining tour because of exhaustion."
Tom Petty asked George W. Bush's campaign not to use Petty's song "I Won't Back Down" as a part of Bush's campaign, Salon reported. The campaign reportedly agreed.
RockOnline.com will host a webchat with Rob Halford on Sept. 26.
To promote its forthcoming album, Radiohead is offering the "iBlip." It seems to be a homing device that one adds to a website to receive bits of Radiohead content, including the Sept. 18 Internet debut of the new album, as well as short video spots and postcards.
According to the Standard, the Financial Times reported that the European Commission is ready to block the Time Warner-EMI merger. The Commission denied this.
The Recording Industry Association of America has hired Bruce Block, a former executive at Musicmaker.com, as its senior vice-president in charge of technology, CNet reported.
