Effortless and acrobatic are two words that could describe Martha Wainwright 's singing voice--which isn't surprising when one considers her lineage: father Loudon Wainwright III and mother Canadian folk singer-songwriter Kate McGarrigle . Along with her brother, Rufus Wainwright , the family home was thoroughly steeped in music.

Inspired by Leonard Cohen , Wainwright has become known for her fearless songwriting and emotionally charged live performances. Not one to shy away from a challenge, she just completed a marathon of sorts: a three-week gig in London, singing Kurt Weill tunes for the ballet opera "Seven Deadly Sins."

Now back in the US to tour in support of her new album, "I Know You're Married But I've Got Feelings Too," Martha Wainwright performed as part of this year's Noise Pop Festival in San Francisco last Thursday (2/26) and I was there to take some photos.
