Chris Brown arrested for alleged Rihanna assault

Chris Brown was arrested yesterday (2/8) for allegedly assaulting girlfriend Rihanna as the two were heading home from Clive Davis' annual pre-Grammy bash, according to published reports. The couple reportedly were scheduled to perform together at the opening of the Grammy Awards show but had to be replaced at the last minute.

Los Angeles police confirmed that Brown and a companion became involved in an argument that escalated into an altercation at about 12:30 a.m. Sunday (2/8) morning in the Hancock Park area of LA.

Police don't name victims of domestic abuse, but an unnamed source told the New York Daily News that Rihanna got out of a car the two were traveling together in to walk home, Brown got out to stop her and things got physical. Police confirmed the woman suffered visible injuries.

Brown, who reportedly wasn't at the scene when police arrived, later turned himself in accompanied by high-profile attorney Mark Geragos, according to the Los Angeles Times. He was booked on a charge of making criminal threats and remains under investigation for felony charges of domestic violence.

Brown was released late last night after posting $50,000 bail.

A spokeswoman for Brown's label declined comment. Rihanna's publicist said that the 20-year-old singer was involved in an unspecified traffic mishap and "is well."
