Pantera Set To Headline In U.S.
Pantera has announced plans for a headlining U.S. tour set to kick off on Nov. 7 in Biloxi, Miss., according to the band’s official website. The group will also perform a one-off show in Mexico City on Sept. 22. Tickets for a number of the U.S. dates go on sale Saturday (9/16), according to Ticketmaster.com.
The Texas heavy-metal quartet spent the summer co-headlining the Ozzfest tour, which also featured tour-founder Ozzy Osbourne, Godsmack, Incubus, P.O.D., Static-X, Kittie and others. That jaunt ended on Sept. 2 in San Bernardino, Calif. The festival was originally scheduled to tour South America this month, but those plans were scrapped in August.
Pantera's Sept. 22 show in Mexico City also features masked metalmeisters Slipknot, according to Pantera.com. A local act will be selected to open the show.
Former Ozzfest companions Kittie, meanwhile, will be joining Pantera on its U.S. tour, according to Elektra Records. The hard-rocking quartet of Canadian teen girls is touring in support of “Spit,” released earlier this year. Also opening for Pantera will be Morbid Angel, whose “Gateway to Annihilation” is scheduled to hit shelves in the U.S. on Oct. 17.
Pantera’s fifth studio album “Reinventing the Steel” was released in March. In May, the Recording Industry Association of America gold certified the disc for shipping over 500,000 copies.
Frontman Phil Anselmo can also be heard on Black Sabbath guitarist Tony Iommi’s solo album, “Iommi,” which is set for an Oct. 10 release. Anselmo appears on the track “Time is Mine,” which he co-wrote with Iommi and producer Bob Marlette, according to Pantera.com.
