A 27-year-old man was arrested yesterday (8/27) for allegedly posting nine unreleased Guns N' Roses [ tickets ]' songs on the Internet blog Antiquiet in June. Kevin Cogill, who was arrested at his home in Culver City, CA, was charged with violating federal copyright laws, according to a Los Angeles Times report.

Cogill, who reportedly confessed to an FBI agent when questioned, could face both federal criminal charges and a civil copyright infringement suit from Guns 'N Roses for leaking the yet-to-be released songs from the upcoming "Chinese Democracy" album.

If convicted of the criminal charges, Cogill could face up to three years in jail and a $250,000 fine.

If the band decides to pursue civil charges, it could yield statutory damages up to $150,000 per song--a total that could exceed $1.3 million, according to a Wired magazine report.

However, a band spokesperson said, "Guns N' Roses representatives have been made aware of the arrest and are leaving the matter to the authorities," according to an Associated Press report.

Cogill reportedly was released on a signature bond, which requires no money up-front but will cost the web designer $10,000 if he misses his Sept. 17 preliminary hearing.
