Jimmy Buffett Blankets The East And Midwest With Ticket Sales

Elsewhere, Elton John and Tina Turner preview their tour with a single date, John Mellencamp, Bruce Hornsby and Bryan Adams each roll out multiple shows and both 'N Sync and Britney Spears release single dates.

Jimmy Buffett enters the 1999 concert season with a splash this weekend as he roll out fifteen shows across eleven markets. Rumors abound of a large New Year's gathering on the West Coast, but for now the spotlight turns to Saturday, where tickets will go up for Charlotte, NC's Blockbuster Pavilion, Detroit's Pine Knob, two nights at Bristow, VA's Nissan Pavilion, Raleigh, NC's Alltel Pavilion, Pittsburgh's Star Lake Amphitheatre, two nights at Atlanta's Lakewood Amphitheatre, two nights at Indianapolis' Deer Creek, St. Louis' Riverport Amphitheatre, Chicago's New World Music Theatre, Columbus' Polaris Amphitheatre and two nights at Columbia, MD's Merriweather Post Pavilion.

The Dave Matthews Band has pushed their spring itinerary into June territory and still not ventured far from the East Coast. Acknowledging their massive and growing popularity, the band is mixing stadium dates in with their regular amphitheatre schedule. A trio of stadium stops goes on sale Saturday -- East Rutherford's Giants Stadium, Boston's Foxboro Stadium and Philadelphia's Veteran's Stadium.

John Mellencamp is showing new signs of life since signing to Columbia Records last year. While album sales have been moderate, concert ticket sales have been strong. Four new dates on his spring run go on sale Saturday -- Buffalo's Six Flags Darien Lake, Milwaukee's Kohl Center, San Diego's Coors Amphitheatre and West Palm Beach's Coral Sky Amphitheatre.

The Johnny Cash Tribute Concert at the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York received a strong early push when it was announced that U2 and Bruce Springsteen would perform. Both acts have since pulled out, but a who's-who of country artists has signed on to honor the Man in Black. Tickets are on sale Saturday.

Bruce Hornsby has unveiled an April through August tour schedule supporting his 1998 release Spirit Trail. Sic shows from that run go on sale Friday -- Cincinnati's Taft Theatre, Cleveland's Lakewood Civic, Indianapolis' Tennis Center, Kalamazoo's State Theatre, Orlando's House of Blues and Pompano Beach's Amphitheatre.

Bryan Adams has not announced a major tour outing in recent months, but continues to sprinkle small-venue shows around. Five new dates roll out this Saturday -- Dallas' Arcadia, Houston's Aerial Theatre, New Orleans' House of Blues, St. Petersburg's Jannus Landing and Tidewater, VA's Boathouse.

Lenny Kravitz and the Black Crowes will populate outdoor amphitheatre with grooviness and incense this spring. Four dates go on sale Saturday -- Denver's Fiddler's Green, Phoenix's Blockbuster Amphitheatre, San Diego's Coors Amphitheatre and Cleveland's Blossom Music Center.

Britney Spears is well on the way to recovery after undergoing surgery recently for a knee injury she suffered while rehearsing dance steps for a new video. The inevitable tour behind her immensely popular debut album begins to show some life as tickets go on sale for Seattle's Mercer Arena on Saturday.

'N Sync has given and given and somehow manages to squeeze out one more show this weekend at New Orleans' Superdome. Tickets are on sale Saturday.

Neil Young is raking is glowing reviews for his current solo tour. In recent weeks, Young has filled in the itinerary with some Midwest stops, and slips one more in this weekend for Columbus, E.J. Thomas Hall, on sale Saturday.

Ani Difranco will slip into the guest chair for David Letterman's show on March 27th. A month-long tour is set to kick off April 1st. Three dates are on sale this weekend, starting Friday with Pittsburgh's AJ Palumbo Theatre and Syracuse's Landmark and finishing Saturday with Indianapolis' Murat Theatre.

Elton John and Tina Turner will test the waters for high-end ticket draw this weekend as their pre-New Year's Eve show at Las Vegas' Thomas and Mack Center goes on sale Saturday. Tickets range from $100 to $600.

Eminem is reportedly preparing a six-week US tour to support his recent Slim Shady album. To date, just a smattering of dates have surfaced, and three of them are on sale this weekend. Thursday gets New York's Hammerstein Ballroom, Friday gets Denver's Lodo Music Hall and Saturday sells Las Vegas' House of Blues.

Andrea Bocelli sold out his Anaheim Pond show so quickly that a date has been added for the Hollywood Bowl. Tickets, some as high as $500, are on sale Monday.
