Charts: "Country Grammar" Still No. 1
Nelly ’s “Country Grammar” tops the Billboard 200 album chart for the second week in a row this week, while Sting’s “Brand New Day” breaks back into the Top 10 after being bumped down to No. 11 last week. This week’s highest debut, meanwhile, is “The Source Hip-Hop Music Awards 2000” compilation, featuring a number of hip-hop and rap artists.
“Country Grammar” has now sold nearly 2 million copies since its release eight weeks ago, according to Universal Records. St. Louis rapper Nelly is scheduled to perform at the upcoming MTV Video Music Awards, the label said.
Britney Spears ’ “Oops! … I Did It Again” holds on to its No. 2 position for the sixth week in a row, while Eminem ’s “The Marshall Mathers LP” and the “NOW That’s What I Call Music Vol. 4” compilation trade places, putting “Marshall Mathers” in the No. 3 slot, and dropping “NOW Vol. 4”--which features music by artists such as Britney Spears, Backstreet Boys and Lenny Kravitz--down to No. 4.
Creed ’s “Human Clay” climbs up a notch to No. 5, pushing ‘N Sync’s “No Strings Attached” into the No. 6 spot. Also trading places this week are 3 Doors Down’s “Better Life,” up one place to No. 7, and Papa Roach’s “Infest,” down one rung to No. 8.
Making a leap back into the Top 10 is Sting’s “Brand New Day,” which jumps from No. 11 to No. 9 this week. The disc, released last fall, sold roughly 80,000 copies this week, according to Interscope. That was enough to beat out “The Nutty Professor II” soundtrack, which holds its place at No. 10 for the second week in a row.
The highest debut this week is “The Source Hip-Hop Music Awards 2000” compilation, which features cuts by Dr. Dre, DMX, Jay-Z and others. The awards ceremony that is the album’s namesake took place in Pasadena on Tuesday night (8/22), but was broken up by police midway through the ceremony when a number of fights erupted in the audience.
