Alicia Keys Hoping To Spread A Virtual Virus

Alicia Keys , co-founder of the charitable and educational foundation Keep a Child Alive (KCA), continues her fight against AIDS with the release of a new documentary, "Alicia in Africa: Journey to the Motherland," which was filmed during a recent trip to Africa to visit communities affected by HIV and AIDS, according to a press release.

The entire documentary can be watched online at www.AliciainAfrica.com, and also will be available as a free download on MySpace and at SprialFrog.com.

In a statement, Keys said she is offering the film for free download in hopes of starting a "virus to stop a virus" by encouraging people to send a copy to everyone they know.

A portion of the film is scheduled to debut Wednesday (4/9) during FOX television's "American Idol: Idol Gives Back" special, which last season raised more than $76 million for charity.

Keys also plans to screen the "Alicia in Africa" trailer before each concert on her upcoming American tour, which kicks off April 19 in Virginia. The performer plans to raise money--as well as awareness--with her "Text Alive" initiative, which allows anyone to make an immediate $5 donation to KCA by text messaging "Alive" to 90999.

"Alicia in Africa," directed by South African filmmaker Earle Sebastian, follows Keys as she visits various communities in South Africa, Kenya and Uganda. Keys introduces viewers to various topics surrounding the AIDS pandemic--ranging from the Gogo grannies and Agape Orphanage to the success of antiretroviral drugs, the ongoing need to access them and KCA's efforts throughout the country.
