Charts: Nelly's "Country Grammar" Claims No. 1 Spot From "NOW Vol. 4" Compilation
Nelly ’s “Country Grammar,” which has spent the last three weeks at No. 3 on the Billboard 200 album chart, moves up to No. 1 this week, switching places with the compilation album “NOW That’s What I Call Music Vol. 4,” which had been on top since its debut three weeks ago. De La Soul ’s “Art Official Intelligence,” meanwhile, debuts in the Top 10 this week, the only new offering to enter a group of albums that otherwise remains mostly unchanged.
“Country Grammar,” the debut album from St. Louis rapper Nelly, has spent most of the seven weeks following its June release at No. 3, but moved up this week after its sales remained fairly steady while those of both Britney Spears’ “Oops! … I Did It Again” and “NOW Vol. 4” dipped slightly. The activity was minimal enough, however, to leave “Oops!” untouched in the No. 2 spot for the fifth week in a row.
Eminem’s “The Marshall Mathers LP,” meanwhile, remained at No. 4 for yet another week with sales just shy of 200,000 copies, according to a spokesperson at Interscope Records. Also holding fast was ‘N Sync’s “No Strings Attached” at No. 5, Creed’s “Human Clay” at No. 6, Papa Roach’s “Infest” at No. 7 and 3 Doors Down’s “Better Life” at No. 8.
The only newcomer to the Top 10 this week is “Art Official Intelligence,” the latest from De La Soul. The eclectic hip-hop trio scored big with their 1989 debut “3 Feet High and Rising,” which reached the No. 1 spot on Billboard’s R&B Album chart and featured the hit “Me, Myself and I.” “Art Official Intelligence,” the group’s fifth album, sold 81,376 copies in its first week, according to Tommy Boy records.
De La Soul’s debut pushes “The Nutty Professor II” soundtrack down to No. 10 this week, which leaves no room in the Top 10 for Sting’s “Brand New Day.” That album, which crept into the No. 10 spot last week--its only Top 10 position since its release last fall--drops to No. 11 this week.
