Briefly: Gore Fundraiser, Paul McCartney, Geddy Lee, Napster-Sponsored Tours, KRS-ONE, Ted Nugent
Crosby, Stills and Nash, Jimmy Buffett, Jon Bon Jovi and others are scheduled to perform at an Al Gore fundraiser on September 14 at New York's Radio City Music Hall, Rollingstone.com reported.
Paul McCartney has collaborated with Super Furry Animals on "Liverpool Sound Collage"--a soundtrack written for artist Peter Blake's exhibit "About Collage"--which includes snippets of dialogue between the Beatles during the recording sessions for the song "Eleanor Rigby."
Jam reported that "Rush's online community" is abuzz with rumors that a solo CD from Rush frontman Geddy Lee is due in October.
Napster will sponsor tours by the Get Up Kids and Face to Face, according to SonicNet.
Jive Records will release a 16-track KRS-ONE retrospective on August 22.
Rocky Mountain News reported that Ted Nugent 's publicity tour for his book "God, Guns and Rock N' Roll" visited Denver. Several people protested the signing, claiming that he inappropriately used the massacre at nearby Columbine High School as an example of why people should be allowed to carry concealed weapons.
The News quoted this portion of Nugent's book, in which he describes the actions of one of the killers involved in the massacre and critiques the reaction of those who were under assault by the killers:
"He fired twice from an obviously two-barreled shotgun, folks! Somebody take it away from him and beat him senseless PLEASE!!"
The Associated Press quoted a parent of one of the slain Columbine students as saying, "I think he's living in this fantasy world where kids are crybabies if they don't fight back against somebody holding a gun."
