Initial Nine Inch Nails, Jane's Addiction tour dates surface
Nine Inch Nails have unveiled the first batch of dates for their recently announced spring co-headlining tour with Jane's Addiction.
The two groups are currently set to launch the run May 9 in Tampa, FL, and, so far, stops are planned at amphitheaters in 20 cities. Also included in the mix is a one-off, NIN-only concert May 29 in Chicago. The itinerary is included below.
Last month, NIN frontman Trent Reznor announced that he had been working in the studio with the original Jane's lineup, and that the two groups would be hitting the road together for the first time since their pairing on 1991's inaugural Lollapalooza tour. (No word yet on when--or if--the Reznor-produced Jane's material might see the light of day.)
Meanwhile, fans eager to get a preview of what a NIN concert sounds like are in luck: NIN fan site This One Is On Us this week released as a free download a pair of professionally mastered, live NIN albums, dubbed "Las Vegas" and "The Gift." The former consists of "a fully fan coordinated, recorded, and produced version of the final show [of NIN's 2008 tour] in Las Vegas, mixed and mastered from a variety of hi-quality fan audio sources," while the latter "takes footage supplied by Nine Inch Nails from 3 different shows in the final part of the tour, edited and mixed together by us to get the best of each show."
The aforementioned NIN-supplied footage surfaced in January when Reznor and company, angered after their plans to release an official concert movie were foiled by record-label red tape, gifted fans 400-plus gigabytes of HD-video footage shot in December during three of the final shows on the band's 2008 tour. In an accompanying message posted at NIN's website, Reznor speculated that "some enterprising fans could assemble something pretty cool" from the treasure trove of raw video.
Work is currently underway on a two-DVD/BluRay set culled from the footage, according to the This One Is On Us website, whose staff is overseeing the project. A release date has not been announced.
NIN, which just finished up a tour of Australia and New Zealand, has been working the road behind its latest studio album, "The Slip," which Reznor released as a free download last May, accompanied by a note reading, "This one's on me."
