The stars come out for George Strait
A Texas-sized soirée is being planned to honor George Strait as the Academy of Country Music's Artist of the Decade.
The April 6 concert event at Las Vegas' MGM Grand Garden Arena will feature an all-star lineup including Faith Hill, Toby Keith, Tim McGraw, Sugarland, Taylor Swift and Keith Urban, according to a press release. It will air at a later date on CBS-TV.
Tickets for the event, ranging from $100 to $200, are available to the general public through Ticketmaster (LiveDaily's parent company). Proceeds will benefit the ACM Charitable Fund.
The celebration of Strait's 25-year music career will come a day after the 44th annual ACM Awards, which will be broadcast live from the MGM Grand. This year, the country star is vying for four trophies: Entertainer of the Year, Male Vocalist of the Year, Song of the Year for "I Saw God today" and Video of the Year for "Troubadour." The nominations bring Strait's career total up to 78, and he's logged 19 wins.
The ACM nods came just days after the performer scored a Grammy in the Best Male Country Vocal Performance category for the title track off his latest album, "Troubadour."
The set, released last April, debuted atop The Billboard 200 and spawned Strait's highest-debuting single ever, "I Saw God Today." His latest hit, "River of Love," marks the singer's 80th Top 10 track on Billboard's Hot Country Songs chart.
Strait will continue to support "Troubadour" with a spring/summer outing that is scheduled to launch May 9 in Hidalgo, TX, and run through late July. The 18-city trek, featuring special guests Blake Shelton and Julianne Hough, will stretch from the East Coast to the Rocky Mountains and stop by Canadian festivals in Calgary and Craven.
Tour highlights include the June 6 opening of the Dallas Cowboys' new 80,000-capacity football stadium in Arlington, TX. Reba McEntire will join the bill on that show, tickets for which go on sale tomorrow (2/28).
