Leonard Cohen books spring North American tour
Fresh off his first US concert appearance in more than 15 years, Leonard Cohen has announced dates for a full-fledged North American spring tour.
The Rock and Roll Hall of Famer--whose New York City show this week was his first American concert since 1993--will kick off the rare trek April 2 in Austin, TX. The 28-city outing stretches through a June 2 appearance in Colorado, and includes many dates in Cohen's native Canada. The full schedule is included below.
Joining the singer onstage will be vocalists Sharon Robinson and the Webb Sisters, along with a backing band that consists of Roscoe Beck (bass, vocals), Neil Larsen (keyboards), Bob Metzger (guitar), Javier Mas (acoustic guitar), Rafael Gayol (drums) and Dino Soldo (sax).
Cohen's most recent studio album is 2004's "Dear Heather," a collaboration with his girlfriend, jazz singer Anjani Thomas, who shared co-production credits for the set. The pair returned with a similar effort, Anjani's "Blue Alert," in 2006, with Thomas singing and Cohen producing and writing the album's lyrics.
In March, Columbia will release "Live in London," which documents Cohen's July 17, 2008 concert at London's O2 Arena.
Cohen was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame last March, with the Hall recognizing his status among "the highest and most influential echelon of songwriters," according to a press release.
