Album Chart: Taylor Swift reclaims No. 1 as Grammy artists surge
After getting brushed back by The Boss a couple of weeks ago, and held at bay last week, Taylor Swift 's "Fearless" returns to the top of the US album chart, beating out a batch of albums that got a sales boost from this year's Grammy Awards ceremony.
"Fearless" sold about 92,000 copies during its latest week in stores, enough to regain the No. 1 slot on The Billboard 200 chart for the ninth non-consecutive week. The feat marks the lengthiest No. 1 stint since Santana's "Supernatural" topped the chart for 12 weeks spread across 1999 and 2000, according to Billboard, which bases its flagship chart on Nielsen SoundScan retail data.
Meanwhile, "Raising Sand," last year's collaboration from Robert Plant and Alison Krauss, experienced an explosive surge in the wake of its Album of the Year win at the Grammy Awards; the set rockets from No. 69 to No. 2 on sales of 77,000 copies, representing a 715% increase over its one-week total prior to the Grammy win.
Also riding the Grammy wave (as well as a pre-Grammy profile on "60 Minutes") was Coldplay 's "Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends," which earned the British pop-rockers four trophies, including Song of the Year for "Viva La Vida"; the set leaps from No. 31 to No. 8 on sales of 62,000 copies.
Other Grammy beneficiaries include the "Grammy Nominees 2009" compilation, up three spots to No. 9 on sales of 61,000 copies, and Best New Artist winner Adele 's "19," up from No. 27 to No. 10 with 57,000 copies sold.
Newcomers to the album chart include India.Arie 's "Testimony: Vol. 2 -- Love & Politics," which debuts at No. 3 with first-week sales of 76,000 copies, and Lily Allen 's "It's Not Me, It's You," which enters the chart at No. 5 with 70,000 copies sold. Sandwiched between the two is The Fray 's self-titled set, which debuted at No. 1 last week and slips to No. 4 on sales of 75,000 copies.
Rounding out the Top 10 are Bruce Springsteen 's "Working on a Dream," which drops from No. 2 to No. 6 with 65,000 copies; and Bobby Valentino 's "The Rebirth," which debuts at No. 7 with 64,000 copies.
