Barenaked Ladies , Travis Tritt , Arlo Guthrie, North Mississippi Allstars, Jimmy Sturr and Shannon Curfman have been added to the slate of performers for Farm Aid 2000, set to take place on Sept. 17 at Nissan Pavilion in Bristow, Va. They will join Farm Aid co-founders Willie Nelson , Neil Young and John Mellencamp .
More acts will be added to the line-up, according to a statement issued by Farm Aid. Tickets to the concert are scheduled to go on sale on Aug. 4.
For the third consecutive year, the concert will be telecast by Country Music Television as a live, eight-hour special. Best Buy has signed on as the concert’s presenting sponsor.
To mark the event’s 15th anniversary, a compilation album featuring performances from past Farm Aid concerts will be released by Redline Entertainment on Sept. 12. Proceeds from the sale of the two-CD set will be donated to Farm Aid.
Nelson, Mellencamp and Young founded farm Aid in 1985 to raise public awareness about the plight of the American family farmer and to provide assistance to those families whose livelihood depends on agriculture.
The non-profit organization claims that it has granted over $15 million to more than 100 farm organizations, churches and service agencies in 44 states since it was founded.
