Repo! Road Tour hits final stride
Rock-opera cult film "Repo! The Genetic Opera" will tour independent theaters across the US one last time as its creators gear up for an extended-soundtrack and DVD release later this month.
The 11-city "Repo! Road Tour 3" follows two previous sold-out runs that drew costume-wearing fans and prompted theater-wide sing-a-longs, according to a press release. The film's final road trip kicks off Jan. 13 in Salt Lake City, UT, and visits markets including Indianapolis, Cincinnati, Denver, Phoenix and Los Angeles through Jan. 24. The itinerary is listed below and tickets, which cost $15, are available at the "Repo! Road Tour" website and through theaters.
"Every stop on Repo Road Tours 1 and 2 surprised me; each night I saw new and elaborate fan-made 'Repo!' costumes--and not just of the main characters!" actor/writer Terrance Zdunich said in a statement. "Each night, I witnessed different and hysterical audience stunts. Each night, I met and bonded with unique and eccentric individuals. With the momentum we've gained from the first two tours, I know that Repo Road Tour 3 will be even more outrageous. It really is like a party every night."
The dates include an introduction to the movie by Zdunich and director Darren Bousman (of the "Saw" movies), as well as a post-film Q&A and autograph session with filmmakers and some of the actors. Those who have previously appeared in select cities include co-writer/band leader Darren Smith and cast members Paul Sorvino, Alexa Vega and Bill Moseley. The film's other stars include Anthony Stewart Head, Sarah Brightman, Paris Hilton and Ohgr from Skinny Puppy.
Originally a stage play, "Repo! The Genetic Opera" hit the big screen in November. The horror/musical, said by publicists to fuse "Rocky Horror Picture Show" and "Blade Runner," is a futuristic tale about a biotech company that offers organ transplants and then sends a repo man to collect body parts that have not been paid for.
In a recent interview with shocktillyoudrop.com, Bousman said the film boasts a whopping 64 original songs. The score is provided by a hefty musical lineup featuring Joan Jett, Richard Patrick of Filter, Stephen Perkins from Jane's Addiction, Clown of Slipknot and Poe, to name a few. A 22-song soundtrack was released in September and an extended version is due Jan. 20, when the DVD surfaces.
