The Whigs in 'Control' with 2009 dates
Indie garage-rockers The Whigs have lined up a headlining tour early next spring as they continue to support their second studio effort, "Mission Control."
The Athens, GA, group plays a pair of New Year's shows with Band of Horses Dec. 30 and 31 in Atlanta, and then begins a stretch of support dates for Kings of Leon in late January before launching into a nine-city run of headlining dates March 4 in Washington, DC. Details are included below.
The band worked with producer Rob Schnapf (Elliot Smith, The Vines) to record "Mission Control," which surfaced early this year. The set, released on ATO Records, follows the band's 2005 debut, "Give 'em All a Fat Lip."
"It was really nice in the sense that it felt like we could relax a little bit more," frontman Parker Gispert told LiveDaily in March while speaking about working on "Mission Control." "When you're working with someone like Rob [Schnapf] who's has made records that you think are just fantastic records, then you trust his judgment. And a lot of times we didn't have to be worried about engineering the record or how things were going to come across sonically. We knew that his records sounded great and we could just concentrate on singing, playing guitar and drums, being musicians, and not trying to exist on both sides of the board. It took a lot of pressure off us."
A free download of one of the album's tracks, "Right Hand on My Heart," is available at the band's website.
