Hole Officially Leaves Manson Tour - Manson Injured At Show
Hole has officially left the Rock Is Dead tour and co-headliner Marilyn Manson has cancelled at least the next two shows on the tour after being injured during Sunday night's (3/14) show at the Great Western Forum in Los Angeles. Courtney Love confirmed during her set Sunday that it would be Hole's last date on the tour. After two weeks of well-publicized infighting between the co-headliners, Hole will vacate the co-headlining slot for the remaining 25-plus dates on the itinerary.
Saying she was getting sick of burning crosses outside and inside of the venues, Love explained bailing on the tour. ''Don't feel bad, you're getting to see us...feel bad for Orlando, FL, they're gonna miss out,'' remarked Love to cheers from fans. The LA crowd was clearly more hospitable to Hole than crowds on previous stops of the tour -- a fact which Love seemed to relish during her almost hour long set.
All eyes were on headliner Marilyn Manson for his reaction to Hole's swan song, but fans weren't left with much. About 35 minutes into Manson's set, he took a tumble that forced the end of the show. Playing to the crowd from a platform to the side of the stage Manson stepped to return to the main stage and fell down head first, tumbling to the floor where he remained motionless.
The band continued to play Rock is Dead, but when it became clear that Manson was not getting up, the band wrapped up the song. Eyewitness reports indicate that Manson may have been knocked unconscious by the fall. An announcement was made to stand by during technical difficulties as Manson was carried away by stagehands. Onlookers were shaken over the mishap, which was clearly visible to the entire arena.
Moments later, the house lights came on and it was announced that a major injury had occurred and that the show was over. While disappointed, fans were orderly and calm as they headed for the exits. An ambulance was summoned to the arena, but it is unclear if Manson was taken away in that ambulance following his injury.
Local Los Angeles radio station 790 KABC was reporting that Manson had suffered a major cut, thus forcing the end of the show. However, other reports have now surfaced indicating that the injury may have been a hairline fracture to his ankle.
At press time, refunds were confirmed for the San Diego and Las Vegas stops on the tour, which have both been cancelled due to Manson's injury. It's expected that refunds will eventually be offered for all remaining dates on the tour, since tickets were sold with Hole printed on the ticket face as a performing act. Refund policies will be set by local promoters. Local ticketing resources will be able to provide additional details.
