Album Chart: Britney Spears' 'Circus' makes big debut

Britney Spears ' new set, "Circus," sold 505,000 copies during its first week in US stores, enough to give the resurgent star the fifth No. 1 album of her career.

"Circus" easily held of Taylor Swift 's "Fearless," which spends its second consecutive week at No. 2 on The Billboard 200. Billboard bases its flagship album chart on Nielsen SoundScan retail reports.

Moving up one notch this week to No. 3 is Beyonce 's "I Am ... Sasha Fierce," which sold 153,000 copies over the past week. Kanye West 's "808 & Heartbreak" falls from No. 1 to No. 4 on sales of 142,000. Nickelback 's "Dark Horse" sold 133,000 copies and moves up two slots to No. 5, according to Billboard.

Rounding out the Top 10 are the "Twilight" soundtrack at No. 6, Akon 's "Freedom" at No. 7, the High School Musical 3: Senior Year" soundtrack at No. 8, the "NOW 29" hits compilation at No. 9 and David Cook 's self-titled debut at No. 10.
