Keith Urban eyes 2009 tour, new album
Keith Urban will launch a major tour next spring following the scheduled March release of his fifth studio album, the singer has announced.
Dates and venues for the outing are still in the offing, but the country star's website is reporting that Urban will kick off the tour in May, with shows "likely" extending through summer.
Supporting acts for the tour will include Sugarland, Taylor Swift, Dierks Bentley, Glen Campbell, Lady Antebellum and The Zac Brown Band, according to the website.
"We intend to give people their money's worth, for sure," Urban said in a statement. "We're looking forward to seeing fans' reactions to the new material, and we're seeing how we can put a few new twists on some older material. We'll play for as long as the venues will let us."
Urban, who became a father in July when his wife, actress Nicole Kidman, gave birth to the couple's first daughter, continues to support his latest No. 1 studio set, 2006's "Love, Pain & the Whole Crazy Thing," as well as his best-of collection from last year, "Keith Urban Greatest Hits: 18 Kids."
"Sweet Thing," Urban's latest single, hit the airwaves last month, debuting at No. 30 on Billboard's Hot Country Songs chart to become the singer's 19th Top 40 country hit. The track was co-written with frequent Urban collaborator Monty Powell, with co-production by Urban and longtime producer Dann Huff. The song is the first cut from Urban's still-untitled forthcoming album.
