Metallica Set To Play Six Free Make-Up Dates

Metallica announced on Tuesday (7/25) the details for six make-up concerts that were scheduled after singer James Hetfield missed three of the band's stadium performances earlier this month due to a back injury, according to a statement on the band's official website.

Make-up dates for the three performances Hetfield missed are as follows: Aug. 2 and Aug. 3 in Dallas, Aug. 5 and Aug. 6 in Atlanta and Aug. 8 and Aug. 9 in Lexington, Ky.

Concert-goers who attended the Summer Sanitarium Tour's stops in any of the three markets where Hetfield did not perform, and who still have the original ticket stub from the performance they attended, will have an opportunity to exchange that ticket stub at a Ticketmaster outlet for a free ticket to a make-up performance. Only original ticket stubs will be accepted; photocopies of ticket stubs and credit-card receipts will not suffice. (LiveDaily is a publication of Ticketmaster Online-CitySearch.)

Tickets for the six make-up dates will be limited to ticket-exchanges only, according to the band's website; no new tickets will be sold.

Last month, Hetfield had to sit out the band's Summer Sanitarium Tour performances in Atlanta, Sparta, Ky., and Irving, Tx., having reportedly injured his back in a jet-skiing incident. The remaining members of Metallica still performed a full set at all three shows, with members from other acts on the Summer Sanitarium Tour's bill--Kid Rock, Korn, Powerman 5000 and System of a Down--filling in for the injured Metallica frontman.

Metallica’s Summer Sanitarium Tour wrapped up in Phoenix on July 16. The band has since performed at the Tattoo the Earth tour stop in East Rutherford, N.J. and at the Hard Rock Fest in Chicago. The group also played a surprise gig at Hollywood's House of Blues on July 18.

No performances are currently scheduled between now and the six forthcoming make-up concerts.
