Ben Harper plots shows, album with new band
Ben Harper and his new band, Relentless7 , will hit the road next month for a run of club shows to familiarize fans with material from the group's planned debut album.
The quartet--which consists of Harper backed by guitarist Jason Mozersky, along with drummer Jordan Richardson and bassist Jesse Ingalls from L.A. band Oliver Future--kicks off the brief outing Dec. 3 in Solana Beach, CA, with four additional California shows to follow. Dates are below.
The group, which made its live debut during an Oct. 29 Beastie Boys-led "get out the vote" appearance in Youngstown, OH, is currently recording its debut for Virgin, "White Lies for Dark Times," according to Billboard.com, with the set due in stores next May.
Streaming samples of a cover of Led Zeppelin's "Good Times, Bad Times" and the original "Serve Your Soul" can be heard at the fledgling band's website.
A spokesperson said that Harper has no intention of ending his longtime band, Innocent Criminals, and "simply wanted to try something different," according to Billboard.
Harper's most recent album, 2007's "Lifeline," has sold 173,000 copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan.
