Katy Perry takes 'Boys' along on headlining outing
With a third single from her "One of the Boys" album still riding high, Katy Perry looks to take advantage of her quick rise to the top of the charts with a lengthy 2009 outing.
The alt-pop sensation (and California native) kicks off the first leg of the trek Jan. 29 in Seattle, finishing up the tour's second half in March and April after a round of European shows. North American dates are below; check Perry's website for her overseas schedule.
Perry--who released her first album, the gospel-oriented "Katy Hudson," in 2001 before switching professionally to her mother's maiden name--worked with a variety of top-name producers and songwriters for "One of the Boys," which hit stores in June. Collaborators included former Eurythmic Dave Stewart, Glen Ballard (Alanis Morissette), and Dr. Luke and Max Martin of Backstreet Boys and Britney Spears fame.
The album's first two singles, the gender-tweaking "Ur So Gay" and "I Kissed a Girl," delivered Perry her first tastes of breakthrough fame, with the latter song reaching No. 1 on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart and, as well as on charts in more than 20 other countries.
"It's so weird because it's hitting so fast and I'm so happy. I'm ready to go," the singer told LiveDaily earlier this year. "But people, if they take the time to look at the back story, there's a long one. That's true for a lot of new artists these days. In the music industry, nothing's stable."
The disc's third single, "Hot N Cold," followed up on the success of "I Kissed a Girl" by peaking at No. 4 on the Billboard Hot 100 in September. Perry hopes to keep the train rolling with the impending release of the album's lead-off title track as the fourth single from the set.
