Grace Potter and the Nocturnals tack on more dates

Grace Potter and the Nocturnals have extended their North American outing through the end of the year.

The Vermont-based roots-rockers, who have been touring nearly non-stop for more than a year, continue tonight (11/10) in Santa Fe, NM, and wrap with a three-show New Year's celebration in Burlington, VT. The band still has US gigs reaching from coast to coast, as well as a stop in Toronto. Details are listed below.

Grace Potter and the Nocturnals will take to the sea to kick off 2009 on the five-night, star-studded Jam Cruise, which leaves from Ft. Lauderdale, FL, Jan. 4 and visits Belize City, Belize; and Costa Maya, Mexico.

The group continues to ride high on the buzz behind their Hollywood Records debut, "This Is Somewhere," which cracked The Billboard 200 last year and snagged the No. 1 spot on the magazine's Top Heatseekers chart.

The album showcases the band's wide array of influences--from vintage rock and roll to blues, funk, soul, jazz, country and pop--as well as 25-year-old frontwoman Grace Potter's prowess on the Hammond B3 organ and guitar. The sound has prompted comparisons to Janis Joplin, Bonnie Raitt, Lucinda Williams and Nora Jones, among others. Several songs from the set are streaming at Grace Potter and the Nocturnals' MySpace page.

Over the past six years, the group--which also features guitarist Scott Tournet, bassist Bryan Dondero and drummer Matt Burr--has made a name for itself through grassroots touring and self-released albums on its own Ragged Company label.

Now, Potter says new fans are engaging in a "backwards discovery" after they hear "This is Somewhere."

"There's always been a sincerely awesome, small group of GPN fans that have been around since 2002," she told Creative Loafing in a recent interview. "A lot of [new fans] have been digging back into our old stuff and seeing where that comes from. That's been cool to watch the backwards discovery."

Potter added that she hopes to return to the studio early next year.
