New York Dolls drop live album, add live dates
The New York Dolls continue their comeback this fall with a new live album and headlining shows later this month and in December.
The group--which is scheduled to make an Oct. 28 appearance on NBC's "The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson," is set to play an Oct. 29 concert in Ventura, CA, along with December shows in Los Angeles (12/20) and New York (12/27). Details are below.
The Dolls' lineup features two members of the original group--frontman David Johansen and guitarist Sylvain Sylvain--rounded out by Steve Conte (guitar), Sami Yaffa (bass), Brian Delaney (drums) and Brian Koonin (keyboards). Founding member Arthur "Killer" Kane died in 2005.
"It won't be very long that we'll be together longer than the original band was," Johansen joked in a press statement. The original Dolls' lineup held together only two years after the band's self-titled debut album, fracturing when co-founders Johnny Thunders and Jerry Nolan departed in 1975.
"Live at the Fillmore East," the band's new live album, is out now on Sony BMG. The 10-track set was recorded last December at the Fillmore New York at Irving Plaza and features a mix of classic Dolls tracks along with a selection of songs from the group's reunion album, 2006's "One Day It Will Please Us to Remember Even This."
"One Day It Will Please Us" was recorded last year with producer Jack Douglas (Aerosmith, Cheap Trick) behind the boards. The band signed a record deal with metal-oriented Roadrunner Records last July.
A 45-minute "making of" DVD, "On the Lip," documenting the Dolls' comeback effort and recording process, was included with early pressings of the album. Several clips from the video can still be viewed at the band's website.
